Gambling King Ho Yat (Jiang Han) is a gambling master, his skills unmatched in the gambling world, attracting countless challengers.
Ho has two sons. His younger son, Fei Sha (Eddie Kwan), is a free spirit, often getting into trouble. He once accidentally stumbled into the casino of his father’s nemesis, Cheng Jian (Cheng Jian), causing a major incident.
Long Jingtian (Lok Ying-kwan), eager to make a name for himself in the gambling world, easily defeats Cheng Jian. Cheng Jian then instigates him to challenge Ho Yat, hoping to profit from the situation.
Ho Yat defeats Jingtian through psychological warfare. Fei Sha’s taunts cause Jingtian to sever a hand. He is rescued by Ho Yat’s eldest son, Fei Yang (Lam Wai), who has returned from studying medicine. Fei Yang also meets Cheng Yuan Yuan (Leung Pui-ling), and the two, caring for Jingtian day and night, develop feelings for each other.
Later, Jingtian, with his crippled hand, wins all of Cheng Jian’s assets and even his life. To save her father, Yuan Yuan reluctantly agrees to marry Jingtian.
Jingtian challenges He Yi again, and He Yi suffers a crushing defeat. Cheng Jian then attempts to kill He Yi and his son, but Fei Yang, to save his father, experiences killing for the first time, unleashing his astonishing potential.
To win back Yuan Yuan, Fei Yang resolves to master gambling skills and ultimately defeats Jingtian. At this time, Fei Yang also learns that he is actually the son of the former gambling king, Ren Zongheng (played by Liu Shaoming), who was forced to commit suicide after being defeated by He Yi.
He Yi tries to kill Fei Yang to silence him but is killed instead. Fei Yang then pins the blame on the now-mad Fei Sha.
Fei Yang’s personality changes drastically. Yuan Yuan, deeply disappointed in him, attempts suicide by overdose. From then on, Fei Yang becomes even more violent.
Fei Sha, homeless, encounters Jian Ling (also played by Liang Peiling) and, with her devoted care, regains his memory. Fei Yang, however, is determined to possess Ling because of her resemblance to Yuan Yuan, resorting to any means necessary.
